Family: Rosaceae

 

Synonym: Fragaria sikkimensis.

 

           

            Bhumla is a native of the eastern Himalayas.  It is a plant of high elevations and is found in Sikkim at an altitude of 10,000 feet and above upto 15,000 feet.

 

Description:

 

A small red stemmed plant with slender runners; leaflets hairy or glabrous with a few teeth and distinctly stalked; flowers white, solitary.

 

            Fruits narrow oblong, 2.5 cm long and 1.25 cm broad, scarlet, insipid in taste.

 

Utilization:

 

Fruits are edible but lacking taste and flavour. 

 

These can are good for planting in rock gardens or for carpeting.
